      Honestly I don't know why folks act like this is shameful. A legitimately useful API was hindered by OS and/or hardware bugs, and Rust successfully insulates its users from this. There should maybe be a `maybe_not_monotonic_now` exposed, but otherwise this seems awesome

      The "this is not a place of honor" meme comes from the messaging about nuclear waste disposal sites for future generations. I think in the analogy the nuclear waste is the underlying platform and the API successfully keeps you away from radiation poisoning.
