I'm not following how this is significantly different than how taxes are handled with stock. The taxable value of the option is the difference between current trading price and strike price, meaning you can immediately exercise and sell to cover taxes just like stock

IIRC this is how it works for ISOs in Canada (but to be perfectly honest I don't remember the specifics other than it's really different than America and I got fucked by assuming I was being sufficiently taxed when we moved to the US)
