i've been messing with an arch linux virtual machine over the last few days, and part of me is enamored with the idea of not using a display manager and getting the boot experience of logging into a console and running a command to start the desktop environment
It's been a long time since I ran Arch, but at the time I was so into how "pure" it was, but eventually got fed up with how hard updating things were, and once you've gone like a year without updating shit it's such an investment it's easier to ditch
Arch does have levels of RTFM *for basic system maintenance* that make it real hard to live with. Shame :(
ime the path to /making/ a stable system is pretty difficult but the cost of /keeping/ one is far, far lower than any other distro I've used THAT SAID, I also recognize that I'm comfortable with a weird amount of brokenness that should discomfort me, so my opinion is very biased
