I run MacOS and Linux daily, and I get problems setting it up on Linux (you'd think it'd be easier!). If you can't move from capybara-webkit, try upgrading it too. There should be a more recent version than 1.15.
The issue here is I don't have an X server running, that's not going to change with a version bump

Probably, but I'd rather not spend time on it for a reason of a thing I'm actively removing from the codebase. Getting chromedriver to use Windows chrome instead of Linux I suspect will take work, but will be more worth it
