      i would probably not pick 1 but some people were taught that 1 is what you do it has to do with the priority you treat the implicit multiplication

      Really the lesson here is "we shouldn't have ambiguous syntax in math" IMO. Why did folks decide implied multiplication was a good idea?

      common core orders the operations differently but both answers are valid according to their own reference frames
