i would probably not pick 1 but some people were taught that 1 is what you do it has to do with the priority you treat the implicit multiplication

some people interpret the pemdas order to include an implicit-mul on the outside of a parenthetical group as being of parenthetic precedence rather than multiplicative precedence some people are wrong

I agree with you but really the person who decided the implicit mul was a good idea is the most wrong
