      Writing Execute Program's SQL course ended up requiring a huge extension to our code example UI, which in turn led to rewriting most of the lesson UI code. It's done now! We're going to do some final QA and copy editing, then rollout next week.

      My system is full of code that calls a particular function inside callbacks passed to React's setState. Now that function needs to become asynchronous for reasons beyond my control. This is doing unspeakable violence to the understandability of the system.

      You can sort of do that in Workers using Atomics, but I'm glad JS discourages blocking main thread.

      As practice shows, not making something possible is the only way to discourage something in JavaScript (or, really, anywhere). Otherwise people will always find a use case and wrap into a nicely named package :)

          That (frontend code) definitely sounds like a usecase where I'm glad it's impossible to block :) Sounds like a problem that React needs to fix / make easier.

          I'm running compilers and WASMed SQLite in the frontend. "Frontend" doesn't mean "CRUD forms" anymore; it means "software", unqualified.
