While I understand the issues that this causes, and it's almost certainly the wrong place to allow this -- I'm not sure I agree with "this is obviously a thing that must be made impossible". OSS funding continues to be broken, and there is perhaps an avenue to explore here
What we have in the funding module is a best case scenario, imo. I don't think it's catastrophizing to imagine far worse, given history.
TBH, when this went on the roadmap we hadn't even considered advertising. It was purely about getting cleaner install results that only showed you things if you actually needed to read them.
