I think this is GROUP BY / HAVING with that fn ?
That would work, but has the same issues as offset, as it's re-implementing the same fundamental behavior

(taking this too far, so feel free to ignore, but..) Yeah, it is, as was the cursor. I thought your problem was (essentially) determining the value of Y to pass as offset. So I've missed what *other* issues that has.

Oh, GDI. Twitter didn't show me the first post in your thread earlier, now this makes more sense. I'll wait for your blog post on the problem with btrees and why offset is bad :)
