not unrelated: though I've been perfectly happy with my 3-year-old macbook air for dev work in ruby and js, and quite happily run vms on it, running the rust toolchain has a noticeably bad effect on the temperature and battery life

like, the entire time I was working on my book I had a virtualbox ubuntu instance running and it did not tax the hardware this much
