just tried out this crate I'm writing on some earlier rust releases and it seems to only work with rust >=1.32; is that a problem?

on 1.31 I get errors like "imports can only refer to extern crate names passed with `--extern` on stable channel"

I think this means you forgot to add a crate to your Cargo.toml, but it worked anyway because it was pulled in by a dependency?

Actually no, I think this is just edition stuff. Being 2018-compatible-compiler-only seems fine imo, 1.30 is almost a year old.

given the ecosystems I'm used to supporting, 1 year is essentially no time at all

Updating compiler versions is much less of a big deal for the current users of Rust FWIW (survivorship bias applies here)
