I have this in db/schema.rb: t.serial "counter", null: false but when I make an instance of this model, its `counter` field is nil, even though the record has been saved what am I doing wrong
Call `.reload`, Rails only grabs the ID from the database when you save. It assumes no other fields are populated by the DB
