Another pattern that does this: single page apps. Some can be written really well, but many are terrible in the face of network issues, and the lack of any browser feedback on loading makes it harder to tell if something broke or if it's just slow.

Right now the main blocker is getting buy-in from the rest of the team. I've tried to promote this in the past, but last time it was tried at least one other prominent member of the team shot it down and it sorta stalled

"main blocker" maybe isn't the right term, but that'd be the first step. I don't want to make the mistake of encouraging someone to spend time on this just to have it shot down again

Hmm, if you do get buy in at some point hit me up. I think this is a good area to see some progress in.
