How do you pronounce a package called `std` when referring to it in IRL conversations?

My read on this is that most rustaceans actually use a vowel /not usually present in English/ for thishttps://twitter.com/ManishEarth/status/1108837923347025920?s=19 …

Manish @ManishEarthso an interesting thing about many Rustacean pronunciations of "std" is that they use a phoneme absent from most dialects of English -- the close back unrounded vowel (aka the infamous turkish dotless ı) when saying it. /stɯd/ (like "stood", but with unrounded lips) https://twitter.com/ekuber/status/1108827311413944320 …Show this thread1 reply 1 retweet 7 likes -

I'm not super familiar with the phonetic pronunciation alphabet, but the "stood" option is meant to be "How Alex says it"

I believe that is indeed the new vowel, but it's been a while since I last heard it from Alex

alex got me saying it his way even though I don't like it... also, what is the difference between the first two options?

The first one is the word "stud" in English, the second is what comes out if you try to remove all vowels from the equation

Yeah, "stud but try to remove the vowel" is stıd. That's the vowel you get if you don't move your mouth any more than you need to bounce between t and d

This is extremely helpful to know. I actually tried to google this when making the poll but couldn't find anything reasonably accessible for the time I was willing to invest researching it. Thanks <3
