My too-expensive computer monitor (LG 34WK95U-W) refuses to play audio from Macs over Thunderbolt 3. Tried everything. The only thing that works? Launching the Battle.net app. Audio plays fine through the monitor's speakers until the next time the computer goes to sleep. Neat.

monitors tend to ship with cables that have actually been tested to meet the bandwidth required. Some generic cables don't. This is more specifically a problem with HDMI cables, but really cheap generic TB3 cables can have this problem.

Oh, I think this has never been an issue to such an extent as it is for USB-C cables. I have several products for which I have literally taped the USB-C cable they shipped with to the product, because the wrong cable could literally brick it.
