This is in the context of TypeScript. I'd rather not build all of the infrastructure to invoke the compiler and assert that it emits a certain error.
I don't know if such a tool exists for typescript, but for Diesel we have a lot of tests that are just "this should fail to compile". The tool we use is called "compiletest", which was extracted from the Rust compiler. Hopefully that helps you find a similar tool if it exists.
From what I can make out (and would of course expect to be the case) "fail to compile" tests are built into the TypeScript compiler repo. However extracting the mechanism they use to perform these tests into a standalone tool has so far been a bridge too far for me.
