Is it seriously impossible to make an ajax request and have it *not* follow redirects, but instead give you back a response object telling you where the server wanted to redirect you to?
Yeah, I'm not exactly sure why it's called "manual". It literally does not let you manually handle the redirect, just get back a thing that says "there was a redirect" instead of an exception

As the issue says, it currently works / meant to work only with Service Workers - that is, you return this opaque redirect to the actual browser and it does the rest. But it does feel very limited. cc
