aside: I notice there are some things like map, and_then, as_ref, as_mut, unwrap_or_*, iter, into_iter, iter_mut that are just conventions, rather than trait implementations, and they don't always have the same type?

e.g. Option::map takes a FnOnce while Iterator::map takes a FnMut... is there a way to accept anything with an iter() method? or do you take an Iterator and make the caller supply one

Any type with an iter method should have `impl<'a> IntoIterator for &'a T`
