I want to hear from Ruby beginners (please RT). Can you tell me (with screenshots or code samples if you can’t fit it in a tweet) what is the most confusing thing that held you back from understanding Ruby when you first started? Don’t hold back. I was confused by bundle exec.

If you’re curious why I’m asking. Since the early days of Code School I’ve been exposed to millions of people learning Ruby and Rails for the first time via Try Ruby and Rails for Zombies. We have saw first-hand the way people try and failed to use a language branded as “easy”.

I love that CRuby is focusing on performance and introducing some convenience features for existing Ruby programmers. But I want to try and tackle a lot of the beginner paper cuts that prevent folks from joining the Ruby community before 2.7 is released next Christmas.

A lot of that work will probably involve documenting *basic* Ruby methods better, and making this documentation more visible. https://docs.ruby-lang.org/en/ still doesn’t show up in the first page in Google results for Ruby method queries. Instead a flurry of outdated sites do.
