just got through the tennant specials in our doctor who rewatch, and when the doctor called himself the "time lord victorious", ash absolutely fucking lost it

now we're a bit into Eleven, who i always found difficult to describe, so i'm trying to figure him out again and so far what i've come up with is "perpetually on the verge of a tantrum" which is actually kind of fitting given how hard he owned himself just before regenerating

this is such a weird era. the doctor has a softer personality than ever but he just abruptly gets harsh with everyone around him, several times an episode, and they all handle him with kid gloves. he basically stops carrying the show, which is some serious whiplash after Ten

i winced rewatching him interact with little-girl amy, repeatedly demanding she cook him something and then getting mad at her when it's wrong. then the very next episode he gets unfairly mad at her AGAIN, and her response is to call him... "very kind"

it half feels like a deliberate twist, stretching his experiences just before regeneration out into a whole personality, and half feels like a complete accident by a showrunner who thinks terrorizing a little girl is nothing but a fun goof
