I am learning that not having a CS degree makes moving abroad so much harder, even with years of experience. It's irresponsible to downplay the importance of degrees to software engineers who are weighing their options.

Most trade agreements that involve immigration (e.g. NAFTA) only benefit people with degrees. Had the same experience moving to Canada
Also most countries have types of visas that are only available to folks with degrees.
