I am learning that not having a CS degree makes moving abroad so much harder, even with years of experience. It's irresponsible to downplay the importance of degrees to software engineers who are weighing their options.

Most trade agreements that involve immigration (e.g. NAFTA) only benefit people with degrees. Had the same experience moving to Canada

Also most countries have types of visas that are only available to folks with degrees.

Canada is one of the hardest countries to get into. I think too hard for people who want to live here if they have a reliable and legitimate work history. Especially in today’s world of gig economy and remote work.
