“Does it scale?” Is a boring question. “Does it scale enough for our users right now in a way that lets us continue to work on what’s most important” is a better one.
The premise is a lie even. Nothing scales forever. "when will we have to scale this" is a good one (and basically your alternative) another I like is "how much can we scale this by just throwing money at it without rearchitecting"
