Current theory is that this script was written with a dog or something and couldn't get greenlit, and had the Pokemon license added after the fact.

Yeah I knew that it was a game that existed, but I did not know that it involved a Pikachu with a grizzled old man voice until about 10 minutes ago. I just figured it was some fun minigames with a pikachu wearing a hat in the corner
