When you plug two phones into each other, how do they decide which one charges the other?

:missingtrollemoji:No, if you plug two USB-C phones into each other one definitely charges the other. My new phone (which was like 50-ish% charged) charged itself from my old phone (which was almost dead) and caused it to shut down mid data transfer

You'd think switching which end of the cable is plugged into which would reverse it in that case though
