Page 507 of @haskellbook: "Now we’re going to make our program ask for your name, then greet you by name." I really enjoy Haskell, but will readily admit there is something hilarious about a language that inspires 506 pages before getting to the first STDIN.

That's literally true of any function which operates on files if you give it "/dev/stdin", but I'm still not sure what any of this has to do with "making stdin easy to use" or how that relates to "maintainable systems"
