Being in the US helps a lot. Had to leave Canada last year due to issues w/ disability law and not being able to use a scooter that I had as a mobility device when I lived in big cities. Same shit though. Didn't look like a mobility aid, and I didn't look handicapped. It's insane
It's really upsetting how much appearances matter though. Plenty of folks use a wheelchair who aren't paraplegic, but if someone in a chair stands up to pick something up, it gets shared on the internet mocking "It's a miracle" as if they are faking :\

That's the thing. I have Tourettes (and other issues) & I have actually had parents point at me & say to their children "that's why you don't do drugs". On a day when I need my mobility aid I don't get those comments. People assume they know our whole situation just looking at us

I was in a wheelchair for about 6 months, but I was able to stand for short periods of time (just long enough to get out of my car and get the chair out of the back.) I DEFINITELY got some dirty looks for it, as if I was a "faker." It made me not want to go out on my own :-(
