San Francisco has one of the highest rates of testing of any city in the country, but recently the increase in demand has made it harder for people to book appointments. This can't continue. Here's what we're doing to make sure that people who need a test can get a test:

First, we've issued a Health Order requiring that private providers test patients with symptoms and close contacts of COVID-19 positive people. The City is conducting 2/3 of all tests even though many people getting tested have insurance. Private providers must do their part.

Second, we're expanding City testing capacity: - 400 new daily slots at the Embarcadero CityTestSF site - Two mobile testing sites with 250 tests per day (one starting this week, one starting next week) - A new CityTestSF site in August in the Southeast of SF (500 tests/day)

If you have a health care provider, contact them first to get tested so we can maintain the City's testing resources for people without insurance, frontline workers, people identified by contact tracers as needing a test, and members of communities most impacted by COVID-19.

But remember that we can't test our way out of this pandemic. A negative test is not a passport to do whatever you want. You can still get sick at any time.
