I believe this is the correct pronunciation for the acronym for Graphics Interchange Format.

It's correct that the mispronunciation desired by the format's creator is older than the correct one. It's a word, not a proper name.

However your point seemed to be that GL does not apply here so I am not sure that using the wording of GL makes sense when I think of it.
