I think they believe people will act nice once we get rid of police and prisons. If they commit crimes it's due to racism or something

By arresting the dealers you are increasing the cost of drug dealing make it expensive and cut into the profits of drug dealing. This will cut the open air drug dealing, improve public safety.

The issue is that their understanding of crime, lawlessness, chaos is different from ours. It's 1984 lite (for now). So what we consider unethical or horrific brings them joy. The more they can destabilize the "system" including, "the norms", the closer they are to their goal.

I don’t think anyone believes that, but it seems to me that our leaders are incompetent and afraid to take the bold steps needed to maintain order in the interim. It’s all platitudes with these folks, no pragmatism. It’s politics through and through.
