Tonight at the Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration in Portland, @ACLUMaine Director Alison Beyea notes that right now in Maine, the Native American rate of incarceration is 5 times that of the white incarceration rate. For African Americans, it’s 10 times. #MLKDay
That is a staggering reality check that highlights the racism in our power structures. We have a lot of work to do on racial equality here in Maine and in this country, and that starts with criminal justice reform. Thanks to @RTalbotRoss and everyone involved for hosting tonight.
