The really are expecting this new DEI consultant to be some uber Superwoman who will do everything to save the organization from its own rot. But if you can't even acknowledge what the problem is and say it straight out...

She also says RWA is only down 20 members, completely glossing over the fact that many remained or re-upped because of CIMRWA's petition. It certainly doesn't account for those who have stated they're going to let their membership lapse.

Is it fixable? I know many hope so. But that DEI consultant has a lot of work to do. I don't know if RWA has enough money to fix what's broken. Or the will to make hard decisions.

I really think the org thinks there will be a few losses now which will be acceptable but everything will settle down once those rabble-rousers are distracted by something else.

I am hoping new leadership will be different and bold and really committed to equity and inclusion. (I'm deliberately leaving off Diversity because that term has been twisted into both-sides-ism)

I want someone who is not afraid to kill the Ritas and take two years or so and hire someone with contest expertise to create a new contest for the org or decide we don't need one at all.

Create a self-publish forum and a trad forum, and hybrid authors can join both or neither. Have moderators who can start discussions focused on being about our money and our work. We are running small businesses here, not tea socials.
