    Institutional abuse is a hard topic. It's a dark place to go in hearings, in our minds or in our hearts. Yet for children, disabled ppl, mentally ill ppl & elderly ppl, this isn't just a theory. It isn't just a nightmare. It is real life.

    Recent problems include strangling a youth with autism, staff punching a kid in the face, dragging a youth down the hall, a rape, lengthy supine restraints and more. These are huge violations and serious danger. I've been sounding alarms for 16 mos. We need action! Now!

    Sequel Northern Ill Academy in Aurora primarily serves kids w disabilities. Those kids are mostly placed by local schools & through state individual grant program through disability svcs. These kids are so vulnerable & silenced. We have to fix this for them!

    There is nationwide prob school districts making res placements in programs states have found dangerous & inappropriate for residential care. Illinois isn't alone. This disproportionately impacts kids with disabilities. , we need your help with this please!

    and , many states now acknowledge Sequel is dangerous. CMS declared imm jeopardy. You have dozens of kids still at Northern Illinois Academy, primarily through Education placements. Please protect these kids by closing facility!

    Now that California, Oregon and Washington refuse to do biz with Sequel, the entire West Coast is Sequel free. Yet, this still doesn't help with Northern Illinois Academy that has no CA kids. That is primarily IL kids. Are you from IL? Can you help us get those kids to safety?

    California DECERTIFIED all Sequel residential facilities this week (& all out of state facilities)! Kids will all be back in CA next month. Sequel has lost one of its largest customers. Progress!

    I 100% agree. We should model what we are asking of Oregonians every day..! SAFETY is #1 and if you can do your work from home, and we should too!

    Agree 💯%~As a primary care provider to frail seniors in long term care I suit up in PPE for medical visits but when I can make a Telehealth visit I do because it’s safer for everyone! We can and should have a remote/catastrophic session to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

    Exactly. We’re no different than any other workplace in that gathering in-person, indoors, increases the risk, no matter what safety precautions we have in place. Particularly concerned for members & staff in high-risk categories or with high-risk folks in their households

    This does not lessen the urgency of meeting our COVID funding cliff and preventing mass evictions in January. However, we can address those issues through a REMOTE session. We CAN do it and we SHOULD do it as soon as possible.

    It's been said over & over again. We don't make the timeline. The virus does. The Legislature isn't immune from contracting the virus or from spreading it. An in person Special Session is dangerous, contrary to public health guidelines & SHOULD NOT happen at this time.

    Legislators are told we don't have to come if we don't feel safe or have family members at risk. But not everyone has that choice. What about Cap staff? Custodial staff? Hospitality workers in Marion Co that would be exposed to those of us coming from all across state?

    That surge will continue to disproportionately impact BIPOC communities, people with disabilities and front line workers. It risks further business closures, more lost jobs, and even slower timeline to reopening schools. We shouldn't do anything to increase those risks

    Eviction moratorium is critical. It must happen now. This can be handled remotely. The mechanism exists to make that happen. There is no reason to gather in person. That would undermine 's message & as a result further drive our current surge.

    We need catastrophic session to put $ in EBoard& pass Eviction Moratorium/landlord relief pckg. But should NOT meet in person. Particularly as we support in its effort to persuade ppl to comply w/Gov's exec orders over holidays to slow infection rates.

    Fantastic work, and team. Amplifying these voices is most effective way to get change!!

    Hundreds of troubled teen industry survivors shared their stories with me and we published them on !! These stories explicitly show the need for REFORM. We must protect the youth currently in these facilities

    accomplished this by truly listening to leaders from BIPOC & disability communities. It wasn't an easy lift, but it got done and just as we face potential crisis in our hospitals. Full statement of principles can be found here:

    Proud moment for OR: Discriminatory crisis care guidelines are overturned. released new triage principles centered in equity that position OR as leader in Health Justice. So relieved & grateful!
