The future say not be as “near” as you think. Trump has managed to ruin the “special relationship” with Britain, and the British may be more interested in working out a trade deal with the EU first.

Britain’s usefulness to us is diminished by Brexit, and the loss of an important voice for us in the salons of Brussels. Britain is making itself irrelevant. No trade pact will help.
