There is a difference between a toxic environment and disciplining a child. The no whooping and yelling method works but not with all children. Just like spanking will not make a child see their partner as an authority figure. If so the disciplinary actions taken were extreme..

I see your point with the last part but using only positive reinforcement works for every child, you just have to know how to use it

I had a difficult conversation with my father the other day (thanks to therapy) and I explained to him how when he used to beat me, he would always say he loved me afterwards. This is why I stayed in abusive relationships when I was a teen. I thought love was supposed to hurt.

I am so sorry that your experienced that but I am happy that you took the steps to improve your life and mindset through therapy
