These two scenes are conceptually the same thing. Displaying military equipment in a way that appeals aesthetically while distracting from its actual or intended use.pic.twitter.com/jIn8EaudLN

I get that the robots are impressive technology, so were tanks and nuclear missiles when they were on display at parades, or fighter jets as air shows too. Military tech usually is impressive because that‘s where our societies invest a ridiculous amount of resources.

Nothing about this is "aesthetically" pleasing. The tanks are supposed to be frightening (and they are, we've all seen the damage they can do). And the robots are SUPPOSED to be impressive but really only come over as a joke considering how fucking useless they are.

If it weren’t aesthetically pleasing to a significant portion of people, then propaganda wouldn’t work and it wouldn’t be designed the way it is. “Aesthetically pleasing” is also not the same thing as “I like it”.

I wish the investments made for robots would focus more on health, care and public service... a few are already way more impressive than those stupid war machines if you think about their capabilities - maybe less popular because not all of them look humanoid...

You know, I'd sure like to have robots on the streets helping us pick up litter, help doctors with surgeries- and a whole lot more to make services more efficient. I'd certainly let a robot operate on me. And if it malfunctions, so what? I'll be dead in my sleep anyway.

Battle tanks would be more broadly accepted if they looked nicer, too.https://twitter.com/Russia/status/1277989261300695042?s=19 …

⚔️❤️ Make Gzhel Not War! Never before did a #military vehicle serve as a folk #culture & #art ambassador – until now 😮 Take a look at this #Soviet Army T-54 #tank, which was painted with traditional #Russian blue floral pattern known as #Gzhel. A perfect fit for a #tea ceremony! pic.twitter.com/X3fp1XuuSo

Well, humanoids *can* actually be employed in many different ways. Try to get a tank to enter a building and defuse a bomb.

Bomb disposal robots on wheels/treads have been doing quite fine without having to balance on two legs so far. But if we’re talking really difficult terrain like half-destroyed buildings, I bet a body plan with at least 4/6/8 legs is more robust and reliable.

A tank is like a gun. It has one purpose and one purpose only. What you see with robots is not that. You see a truck. And with a truck you can do many things, good or bad.
