For the record, when Lincoln said "a house divided cannot stand" he did not mean "we need to compromise with the slave owners", he meant "we are going to crush them into the dirt" and then he did.pic.twitter.com/RE4uLWynj5

This ad campaign is for "civility" but Lincoln started a war that killed 625,000 Americans, more than any war in history. He sacrificed 2% of the population. He drenched the continent in blood for the principle of keeping the nation unified. "Civility" my ass.
I apologize for saying Lincoln started the war, obviously the south started the war. I should have said "conducted".
I hear Obama's name a lot.
Franklin Pierce. I remember him specifically because he was hot and clueless and did nothing at all.pic.twitter.com/wlyqmJuQZb
I can’t stop watch this gif. Plz send help.
Except Lincoln, early in the war, tried to find a middle ground and a sensible compromise: "My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or destroy Slavery."https://nyti.ms/1OWRhtV
I do remember their names, because in 8th grade history we learned all about them as “the do-nothing Presidents”
This is a bit of a peculiar take given that Lincolns skill at finding a middle ground was not only the core attribute of his presidential style, but also the reason he became president at all (beating out Chase, Bates and Seward for the nomination by being everyone's 2nd choice)
I agree, and one of the things that made Lincoln great was that he made compromises. He kept the radicals in his party united with war Democrats, he kept members of his cabinet that wanted to replace him, and he managed to keep the border states in the Union, among many things.
