This is like that "bumblebees' flight is impossible" myth except it's not a myth and we really didn't understand how spiders could fly and we just sat on it for 200 years until somebody got around to it.

So apparently a lot of you were unaware that spiders could fly until today and are not thrilled to hear it, and I can only apologize for that revelation, but take consolation in the fact that they fly in the most science-fiction-y way you can imagine.

To everybody who has said: "it's electric fields not magnetic fields". Yes, you are 100% correct, I typed magnetic instead of electromagnetic and I will regret it forever.

The magnetic field is too weak to lift any weight. This article says they ride the electric fields. Nature is awesome, and so is science. Thanks for posting this but please read it and don't use quotes if you're not literally quoting.

Migrating electical charges create magnetic fields. Complicated relationships that I no longer fully recall (my chemistry and physics days are far in the rear-view mirror). I think the repeling created by the negative charges mentioned constitute a magnetic field.
