    A truly amazing woman to mark day four of our series of women on who fought for women in Indonesia to have the right to education. What a great way to celebrate

    Another of our historical women for ! Raden Ayu Kartini, shown on this 1954 Indonesian note, worked to provide education for women late c19 Indonesia, and wrote many early feminist letters. She is now celebrated as a national hero with Kartini Day!

    Another historical lady for ! Iceland put Ragnheiður Jónsdóttir on this note for being a woman who contributed to Icelandic culture in the seventeenth century! She commissioned a beautiful church, and taught expert needlework to many other women.

    The second of our amazing women on to celebrate comes from Bolivia and shows a Lieutenant Colonel who fought for her country's independence

    Our second woman for ! This 1982 Bolivian note shows Juana Azurduy de Padilla, who fought for independence and earned the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1816, eventually commanding 6000 men. Simón Bolívar later said that she 'made the country free'.
