Looks like another strongly felt earthquake as part of the Surrey seismic swarm this morning at ~03:42am. Awaiting location and magnitude from @BritGeoSurvey. Thanks for your felt reports, everyone, and please also send them to @BritGeoSurvey here: http://earthquakes.bgs.ac.uk/questionnaire/EqQuestIntro.html …pic.twitter.com/5ESXWt7nHu

EMSC (@LastQuake) gives the earthquake an estimated magnitude of 3.6 but more local estimates by @BritGeoSurvey will give a clearer picture later https://www.emsc-csem.org/Earthquake/earthquake.php?id=747533 …pic.twitter.com/EkqGe1bfcj

Here's an audio recording of this morning's quake sent to me by a Charlwood resident (~3 km away from the epicentre) recorded on their home's CCTV system. You can clearly hear the distinct rattling from the initial P-waves followed by S-waves <1 second later @BBCSurrey @BBCSussexpic.twitter.com/ybHiPswlw2

Here's a recording of this morning's quake from monitoring station "RUSH" located just a few km from the epicentre. The S-waves were a bit too strong for the sensitive instrument, throwing the north-south component a bit off course and causing the recording trace to be "clipped".pic.twitter.com/QBLxb0rldB

There's been confusion over the magnitude of today's quake. @LastQuake gave ML 3.6 & @USGS gave ML 3.3. But these use slightly different mag scales & did not use the closest seismic stations. I've just computed ML 3.1-3.2 using all available data, consistent with that of BGS.

It’s a good question. BGS are still monitoring this earthquake swarm and produced a report last year that might help put it in context http://earthquakes.bgs.ac.uk/research/NewdigateEarthquakesReport.pdf ….

Everyone round here saying it’s the biggest one so far, felt more than last July ,which was either 3.0 or 3.3.

Should BGS be taking more seriously the fact that UKOG recently announced restarting oil extraction at Horse Hill after a 6 month 'shut in'. Just coincidence? I am pretty sure the magnitude of this quake was more than 3ML. Other sites are reporting it as 3.7.

Hi Lynette, the conventional oil well at Horse Hill has been continuous over the past 6 months and it is just one depth / reservoir (The Portland) which had been 'shut in'. Would you take someone seriously who said it could be to do with the unseasonably warm hot weather?

Hi Stephen, thanks for your tweets on the earthquake in Surrey. Fancy chatting to @thisisthebreeze about what's happened? If you could follow me so we can DM to arrange a short interview for our news that would be great.
