A thread on advice I'd give my college self:

6. If you pick Computer Science and do a ton of networking and get a good job offer early in your college journey, accept it and drop out of college. Years of being broke and killing yourself working minimum wage jobs, only to find you don't need your degree-- it's not worth it.

7. Keep in touch with people who were good to you. Professors, managers, customers at your side job, classmates, on and on. Exchange contact info. Write thank you notes. Check in. You'll thank yourself for nurturing those relationships, and it'll pay off later in many ways.

8. You're well aware of sexism and sexual harassment and all that by now. What you aren't aware of is the longer you spend in toxic places, the more you're blind to good places. Plenty exist. Build relationships with good people and never stop looking for good places and people.

9. If the man you're dating is threatened/upset by: - you making more money than them one day - you not wanting to follow them around for their career - you having your own career then it's okay to dump them immediately. Trust me. This will bring good things.

(*high fives all the men messaging me to agree with the above point*)

10. And lastly, college self, you spend a lot of time thinking of how to be successful one day. So let this observation on life sink in.https://twitter.com/sehurlburt/status/920503785964830722 …

That rings pretty true to me. One thing though, is as I've worked on it over time, my bill work has become sexier and my sexy work has become more bill paying.

Agree on all accounts. Also, that retail/restaurant job you have in school will teach you invaluable people skills, even if you aren’t enjoying it at the time.

And if you’re in College, try to get out of courses you don’t need, especially introductory classes. Some places will let you swap them out for independent study or special topic classes. Convince your advisor to help. They should advocate for you, if not, find a new one.
