Few days ago I asked Twitter if anyone wanted to party with me on the 4th. I invited everyone who responded within a few hours. Yesterday 25 internet strangers partied with me on my apartment rooftop. Everyone was nice and great

When I was a teenager I made a blog that about feelings & life, it got decent views. I invited one blog fan to hang out with me and stay at my house for a week (my parents were too confused to refuse). I thought this was a phase but glad to report adult life continues like this

When I was 12 my parents dropped me off at some random pre-internet guys apartment I’d met through an 8bit Atari BBS. ...I’m a parent now. Can’t say I’d do that now... Kinda a bummer... I miss carefree scarefree childhood days. Plus I got Ultima IV that day... win!

In retrospect my parents did some pretty awesome things for me that they couldn’t even fathom. I remember they used to take me to these meetup/swaps. 8bit computer enthusiasts were so random. Kids, hells angels and your token geeks all coming together. Plus my confused dad.

I had something similar that went on when I was around 16yo. I met a guy in online video game (Halo 2). We played together for months and one day he told me he'll leave for holidays. I asked him if he had room in his luggage for me as a joke. He took my words for it.

I happened to spend 2 weeks with his family at their holidays location which was 400km from my home at that time. I had never met the guy before going in but I spent 2 awesome weeks.

I made so many random internet friends as a teen and in my early 20s, and met lots of them in person. I still have friends that I talk to regularly but have only met in person a few times!

Any time people are willing to make the cross-state drive to do it, I have effectively my own maker space, and the tiny town where I live the civic leaders offered to put a group up.
