Good thread. Telecoms aren't eagerly waiting to jump right to worst case scenario. It'll be a boiling frog thing. They'll start with zero rating etc, measures where the damage is hard to articulate. The long-term erosion of tech competitiveness in the US will be the real problem.

Finally got ‘round to making chocolate and espresso mini cake donuts with chocolate icing. The results donut disappoint. I’m espresso-ly pleased with the flavor. I’d say they are a ringing success.

My biggest gripe with AWS is that its dizzying range of disparate services doesn’t provide a coherent dev experience. Seems like Cloud9 could be how they are fixing that. It needs to be, because Microsoft is already heading in that direction with Visual Studio’s Azure integration

Great to see launch a preview of syncing in their latest snapshot: When it lands in a release, I'm going to make Vivaldi my default browser.

Linux Journal was one of the first publications to publish my work when I first began my journalism career. It’s a terrible shame that it’s no longer sustainable, but not surprising given the state of journalism today.

My DSA-profile vimcaps arrived. Here they are on my Tada with the Lightcycle set. Now I just need the SA-profile ones so I can properly vim out my other boards.

Kind of wish Chrome wouldn’t pop up a giant balloon to prompt me every time a page wants location permissions. I almost never want to grant that. I’d prefer an unobtrusive url bar icon or a sticky bar at the top of the page that doesn’t cover anything.

Microsoft’s new real time collaboration feature for Visual Studio Code looks fantastic. Looking forward to seeing how it compares to e.g. Floobits.

I’m so stoked to see all of the Xamarin/Visual Studio stuff. The ability to embed C# stuff in Swift of Objective-C apps is so cool!

From the comments on Microsoft and MariaDB: "It really says something that I’m not even going “Hell has frozen over!” at these announcements anymore."

It’s kind of crazy that ellipsis-lastline is still not a thing in standards-based CSS. There really ought to be a way to cleanly truncate multi-line blocks of text.

AsciiDoc is like Markdown but with extensibility and DocBook semantics. I'm experimenting with it for a docs project and it is fantastic. It makes it easy to solve problems Markdown can't.
