This is indicative of a response common in UK academia when matters of race comes up. White scholars race to assert or prove that “they aren’t problematic,” when the real question BIPOC scholars and students are asking is “Are we safe with you as a colleague or lecturer?”

If your writings are instantly getting taken up by the far right in support of their claims and you aren’t doing anything about it, if you’re tone policing more than addressing substance, on and on and on (and I mean this well beyond this particular debate), we can’t trust you.
