Designers: If you're frequently printing and cutting cards for your games... 1. Use a paper cutter (I recommend rotary, not guillotine) 2. Print 9 to a page, butted up against each other 3. Cut only 8 times:pic.twitter.com/r1QJaBTIWH

I'm also an 8 cut person, though I cut into the longer strips first, then cut horizontal as I find it easier to feed the longer strips into the paper cutter.

With my cutter, it doesn't make a difference (the arm raises). It would work the long way just as easily.

I've seen a lot of people suggest rotary over guillotine, but never understood why... could you elaborate?

In my experience, guillotine cutters move the paper more easily. Also, they're a little more dangerous WRT risk of cutting yourself (though not a big risk), and take up more vertical space Personal preference. I'm sure @KindFortress or @PuppyShogun could argue otherwise :)

I find myself needing to do 2-sided printing frequently. Center the cluster of 9 so it lines up on the back. Since there's no bleed, it depends on how precisely your printer can flip the page for how well it lines up, but it works well enough for prototypes.

I use really thick borders on my cards, in part so slight miscuts don't cause a big problem, and in part to cover poor registration (to an extent) when doing as you suggest. Though TBH I seldom print double sided, mostly because registration is poor (also, cards are see-through)

My biggest improvement was switching from rotary to utility knife with safety ruler & self-healing mat. I know this doesn't work for everyone, but it's much faster & a bit more accurate for me. Depending on game & material, I might cut three strips then stack for 2 final cuts.

If you're cutting 3x3 cards that way, you still gotta trim the 4 outside edges, so that's still 8 cuts, I think. I don't love this, because it is harder to keep consistent cuts. For me, the rotary cutter is better (and just as fast, I think)

If you put two pages together, line 'em up by holding them by holding them up to the light and staple them, you can cut out two sheets of cards at the same time and double the cards-to-cut ratio

In the time it takes to carefully align and staple the cards, I probably could just cut the other sheet!
