For those seeking asylum at ports of entry, we have continued the policy from previous Administrations and will only separate if the child is in danger, there is no custodial relationship between 'family' members, or if the adult has broken a law.

DHS takes very seriously its duty to protect minors in our temporary custody from gangs, traffickers, criminals and abuse.

@SecNielsen just to be clear, you’re blaming the parents for you placing their children in quasi-prisons apart from them? I just want to make sure I’m clear on your position. Laws are important, but not perfect, and this one is far from it. Do the right thing and stop deflecting. -
The parents broke the law. Every day in the USA we separate children from parents who break the law. How come people aren’t upset about that?
