There must be a more efficient way to grab all that info. Like, the IRS could just friend us on Facebook.
UK: You don't need to fill out a tax return, we already have all your income information. US: Can you fill out 20 pages, print, sign it and then snail mail it us. Thanks.

If I worked at FB, I would avoid the words "we have all your income information" in a sentence. Could be taken out of context :)

There's a reason the H&R Block, etc have such large lobbying efforts. They like their tax preparation business. The IRS absolutely has all the income info they need as well.

They still have your information - it's just a weird cultural/special interest thing that regular salaried people still have to do this. Filing as an independent business owner in the UK was way simpler too.
