Flying to the US is such a miserable experience. @Anagobarreto got flagged for “secondary screening” and they grilled us on our travel plans in the US. We have valid visas, what more do you want.

Agent at Sydney check-in asked a series of questions including “How long was your stay in Australia? Why did you travel here?” Buddy, I’m an Australian citizen, none of your god damn business.

Did this to me too on my last trip. Apparently the US has enforced this for all passengers flying to the us. Problem is, I flew in a group. They questioned us all separately, and none of the questions were the same/related. They seem to make it up on the spot.

They aren't interested in your answer to the questions, so much as your ability to answer them under pressure, hence the rapid-fire, slightly aggressive nature of the questioning. They're trying to catch out someone who has a reason to lie.
