The thing I hate most about writing React components is how much of the correctness is down to the code patterns you use. So many places to shoot yourself in the foot. Do other "view libraries" do better?

A lot of this comes down to lack of static typing. With a properly typed binding layer on top of React, you find almost no place to shoot yourself in the foot.
That's not true. There's a lot to the React execution model where static typing wont help.

True in my experience (scalajs-react, ReasonReact). Hard to figure out how to discuss because I don't know what you've tried.
