question is why? Is this because other browsers are slow at adopting standards, is google using nonstandard things or is it "just because" with no valid reason?

Chrome exports some nonstandard APIs, but mostly it's just Google's Web developers choosing to target Chrome first/Chrome only to save effort. Forcing people to use Google's browser is happy side effect.
